What is a Wiki?

“A website that includes the collaboration of work from many different authors. A wiki site allows anyone to edit, delete, or modify the content on the web.” http://tig.lsc.gov/techglossary.php

  • A wiki can be used by a group of people who are working together on a committee or project.

  • A wiki can provide a place to share information and resources using the web on any computer.

  • Participants can make changes to pages, add pages, post comments and announcements, create to-do lists, insert images and links, etc.

Why use a wiki instead of a blog or forum?

Blogs are great for one-to-many communication, such as one person writing about personal finance. Forums are good for letting many users ask questions and letting many people answer. Wikis are excellent for collaboration. If you want to collaborate, add files, suggest links, and create a document that's comprehensive and up-to-date, use a wiki. (from http://pbwiki.com/education.wiki#Whyuseawikiinsteadofablogorforum).

After looking at the information generally, I have many new ideas of how I will be able to use this great tool. I have much to still learn, and I appreciate the simplicity of the instructions, and the dedication of our staff to making this experience user-friendly. Thanks.
